Obama to Sign Patent Bill at TJ Today

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology hosts President Obama's ceremonial signing of the America Invents Act.

Update 1:30 p.m. - President Obama spoke about patent reform and its connection to job creation today at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

President Barack Obama will be at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology around 10 a.m. for the ceremonial signing of the America Invents Act.

Some students will be in attendance at the event, but it is not open to the public.

The America Invents Act is the biggest change to the U.S. patent system since the 1950s. Among other changes, there were be increased emphasis on reviewing patent applications and related rights on a "first to file" basis instead of a "first to invent" basis.

This is not President Obama’s first trip to the greater Annandale area this year—he hosted a at Northern Virginia Community College’s Annandale in April and there in June.
