Drivers who have traveled on Little River Turnpike (Route 236) in the last few weeks may have noticed the road feels and looks a little different.

For the last few weeks, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has repaved much of Little River Turnpike as part of their annual paving program.

According to Joan Morris, VDOT communications manager for the Northern Virginia District, VDOT received $76 million to pave 536 lane miles of primary roads (roads numbered 1-599) in Northern Virginia. Route 236/Little River Turnpike is among those roads.

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays, VDOT crews work on the roads. So far, most of Little River Turnpike is complete with the exception of much of east Route 236/Little River Turnpike.

The repaving extends to Hummer Road and as far as just past the intersection of Braddock Road and Little River Turnpike. However, Little River Turnpike isn't the only street affected by the repaving. There are visible parts of pavement missing at intersections such as John Marr Drive and Little River Turnpike, Carrico Drive and and Little River Turnpike, Old Columbia Pike and and Little River Turnpike and others.

Morris said the entire project to be completed by July 26. The timeline for VDOT's completion of Little River Turnpike was not immediately known.
