Update: Dominion Crews in Annandale, Closures and More

A list of open and closed businesses in Annandale, school closures, government status, cancellations and more.

Update 11 a.m. Monday

According to the Dominion Virginia Power's list of crew locations in Northern Virginia, crews are at Hillbrook Drive and Little River Turnpike and Glen Park Road & Braddock Road in Annandale today. The outage map is showing that almosr 7,000 customers are still without power in Annandale.

Annandale Patch will have a grocery stock list soon for those wanting to know which items they can purchase at local stores.

Update 6:45 a.m. Monday

Fairfax County reports that over 80 traffic lights at intersctions are out, including Hummer Road/Gallows Road and Route 50 and Gallows Road.

According to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the following Annandale schools out of 15 FCPS schools are without power as of 6 a.m. Monday.

Around 11,201 people in Annandale are still without power, according to the Dominion Virginia Power outage map. On Sunday, Dominion announced that it could be to the more than 250,000 Northern Virginia customers still without power.

Media Relations Spokesman Dan Genest said on Sunday that while Dominion predicts repairs to be at 90 percent restoration progress by Thursday, they hope to be closer to 60 percent restoration progress by Tuesday.

“We’re working along main streets right now, but we know we’re missing the little places in between,” said Genest.

Neighborhoods still without power in Annandale include: Sleepy Hollow, Chapel Square, Canterbury Woods, homes near Hummer Road, homes near Annandale High School, Ravensworth/Bristow, Broyhill Crest, and Forest Hollow. Residents in nearby Lincolnia, where there are an estimated 600 customers without power based on the outage map, and in North Springfield are also without power.

Dominion released a list of work crew locations in Virginia on Sunday. Genest said the list will be updated daily, so it’s possible that Annandale will appear on the list sometime this week.

School Closures and Cancellations

Confirmed school closures for Monday, July 2 are: ’s Annandale campus, the , and Congressional Schools of Virginia in Falls Church.

Government Status

Fairfax County Government will be open on Monday, July 2. Employees have been granted unscheduled leave. Emergency service personnel should report as scheduled. Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed.

will remain closed on Monday due to continuing power outages. All programs including classes, camps and extended care at Audrey Moore RECenter and are cancelled.

Update 8 p.m. Sunday - Gas Price Gouging, Open Restaurants/ Shops

All shops and restaurants in the , Bradlick Shopping Center, World Plaza Shopping Center, and Little Run Shopping Center had power restored early Sunday evening. It's likely that all shops in those centers will be open, including: , , , , , , in Bradlick Shopping Center and in , and others.

is now open and several grocery stores including , , and still have power. remains open.

Where to Buy Gas

Annandale residents spent part of Sunday in long lines at gas stations. The most expensive gas is the located on Markham Street and Little River Turnpike. At $3.99 a gallon, the Exxon has significantly increased their prices and could potentially face complaints from residents for price gouging. On Friday, regular gas was at $3.36 a gallon. On Sunday, the price soared to $3.76 for regular and then to $3.99 for regular, $4.11 for plus and $4.21 for supreme no more than an hour later. The prices remained the same on Sunday evening. Based on the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs complaint form, the gas station could be violating the state Anti-Price Gouging Act.

Nearby gas stations such as the Sunoco (formerly Texaco) at 7206 Little River Turnpike was $3.36 for regular and $3.69 for for ultra while the Hess near John Marr Drive and Little River Turnpike was $3.34 for regular, $3.46 for plus, $3.69 for premium and $3.75 for diesel as of 8 p.m. Sunday. For thos resident searching for gas come Monday morning, your best bet is to start at those places.

As of 8 a.m., they were not open, but did not have signs on their door stating they were closed or did not have power. It's best to call ahead.

Most Banks are also still closed. However, Giant and Safeway allow debit/credit card usage and have cash back as an option. If you need to relax, Sun's Day Spa has power and is open.

Restaurants in shops in the such as and and shops in the Heritage Shopping Center such as H-Mart are closed. Restaurants in the Little Run Shopping Center are closed. Employees at spent part of the afternoon removing most of the animals, especially the fish, to other facilities due to their power outage. and (on John Marr and Little River Turnpike) are also closed.

Cox TV/internet service has been out in Chapel Square for days. Cox is providing no information on their website and their customer service personnel will give no updates.
