to Kathy Keith: I suppose Bush never "aplogized" for anything? And I guess if you think America is never "wrong".....you must also still think Iraq had WMDs. Hmmmmm... following is from the Wash Post, which has repeatedly fact-checked the old "apology tour" lie.....
"Indeed, on several occasions Bush apologized to foreign governments for actions taken by U.S. soldiers, such as for the shooting of a Koran or prisoner abuse in Iraq. “I told him I was sorry for the humiliation suffered by the Iraqi prisoners and the humiliation suffered by their families,” Bush said at a news conference with Jordan’s King Abdullah."

Unless you're truly wealthy, a vote for Mittens is a vote AGAINST your own interests. Vote for AMERICANS. Vote Democratic. Re-elect Barack Obama. Activate your brain.
oldtowner October 22, 2012 at 08:24 pm
Yes, let's hear it for "clean coal".....an oxymoron if there ever was one. To Scott, I can only say your reference to the President by calling him "OSAMA" only shows your ignorance. When you can't argue with facts, try name-calling.

Enjoyed the Iraq Wsr? Then you'll love the one in Iran that Dan Senor and the other Bushie neocon retreads have in store if Romney's elected. Peace is truly a policy foreign to the GOP.

Lee, the Romney is against closing this loophole, Obama for closing it.
http://investorplace.com/investorpolitics/what-is-carried-interest-anyway/.
Lee Hernly October 22, 2012 at 09:00 pm
Romney is not against closing the loophole. Granted, in the many interviews I have seen about 'carried interest', Mr. Romney has punted on the question. It does not mean he is against closing it. Like Paul Ryan said at the VP debate, you start out with a budget framework, then negotiate the details. Mr. Ryan's budget has received bipartisan support. How many Democrats voted for President Obama's budget that he tried to ram down our throats?
Jim Moran has voted for $4.7 trillion in new taxes with the last Congressional Progressive (Communist) Caucus budget. Considering that raising rates on the wealthy will bring in around $40 billion this year, where's the $ for the new taxes gonna come from? http://redalexandriava.com/2012/03/31/jim-moran-blasts-paul-ryans-budget-but-wheres-his-plan-video/ Look, everyone has an interest in taxes -- rates, deductions, credits, loopholes. Trouble is, one person's deduction is another's loophole. So, what's fair? Romney says what would be fair is to simplify the tax code by lowering tax rates across the board 20 percent and limiting deductions for the wealthy to make up the loss in revenue, ending some altogether. He's also stated he's willing to keep the top rates the same as now. Let's hope, if he's elected, that he can break the gridlock in D.C. for the better of all of us.

Military personnel and retirees do pay income tax unless the income is extremely low.
Jason Atkinson October 22, 2012 at 09:17 pm
"Osama" and "Mittens"...you people are a general disgrace to the civility of all Americans, IMO... Clearly most of you respect no one but yourselves (and those who think like you on occasion). It does make for a more entertaining read than Laugh Lines, albeit generally useless for anything else.
Cheryl Darby October 22, 2012 at 09:23 pm
Kathy, social security benefits are not taxed. Military personnel in war zones are not taxed.
Another Patriotic Liberal October 22, 2012 at 09:28 pm
Thanks for reading, Jason. Calling President Obama the name of the world's most vicious terrorist that he, President Obama, had hunted down and eliminated is completely the same as calling Romney a silly name that's perfectly fitting for a preppy silver-spooner.
Lee Hernly October 22, 2012 at 09:34 pm
Cheryl -
That is only partially true. Having done scores of tax returns for folks, you MUST pay federal tax on Social Security if your AGI is over $25K. If you're married, the cap is $32K. http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/493/~/paying-income-tax-on-social-security-benefits

Cheryl: Actually, SS benefits may be taxed, depending on your other income and filing status. A sentence from the IRS website: "How much – if any – of your Social Security benefits are taxable depends on your total income and marital status." Another sentence from the SSA website: "You will have to pay federal taxes on your Social Security benefits if you file a federal tax return as an individual and your total income is more than $25,000. If you file a joint return, you will have to pay taxes if you and your spouse have a total income of more than $32,000." Also, some states tax SS and some do not....important factor in figuring where you want to retire.
Cheryl Darby October 22, 2012 at 09:59 pm
According to the Social Security Administration, one-third of SS benefit recipients pay Federl income taxes.
Lee Hernly October 22, 2012 at 10:05 pm
Social Security can be taxed at a rate as high as 85% based on income. A good calculator on that is here:
http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/tools/how-much-of-my-social-security-benefit-may-be-taxed.html
Cheryl Darby October 22, 2012 at 10:21 pm
I understand that. There are people who worked jobs where they didn't have 401Ks, pensions, or even health insurance. These folks worked hard their whole lives and have nothing but Social Security. Believe or not, they wish they made enough to be taxed. These are the invisible poor.

Mitt Can't Handle The Teuth
Romney Told 31 Myths In 41 Minutes Courtesy of Thinkprogress.org During the first presidential debate in Denver, Colorado Romney managed to tell 27 myths in his 38 minutes of speaking time. But at his second encounter with Obama in New York, the GOP presidential candidate — who has run a post-truth campaign from day one — outdid himself and crammed 31 myths in 41 minutes. http://www.loscerritosnews.net/2012/10/18/romney-told-31-myths-in-41-minutes/
Kathy Keith October 22, 2012 at 10:35 pm
It is true that military in war zones are not taxed while they are serving there. Most people serving in the military are not in war zones. Social Security benefits are taxed. Perhaps disability is not, but regular income from Social Security is taxed.
oldtowner October 22, 2012 at 10:43 pm
Cheryl: you are correct that many elderly rely totally on Soc Sec for their income. They are part of the 47% that Romney claims refuse to accept personal responsibility....He is so wrong

I know another myth... The Teuth Fairy
Rk October 22, 2012 at 11:37 pm
Yes many seniors and retired do rely on SS for there living needs.. and a poor economy has direct consequences on them. The cost of living adjustment raises for the last four years under Obama - average 1.325% - Last four years under Bush - 3.875% - and the four years before that - 2.2%. Seniors and retired living on SS are being squeezed by from all sides, higher food bills, utilities, gas, etc.., etc..

Debate? It's the President versus an empty suit.
Colter95 October 25, 2012 at 08:53 pm
Cheryl, so have Obama's lies on the Benghazi disgrace... Now there are emails that show the White House new two hours after the attack exactly what it was and who was doing it... Yet, they decided to try and deceive the American people for 15 days... If Obama was a Republican, you and the liberal media would be screaming for impeachment...
Cheryl Darby October 25, 2012 at 10:26 pm
Colter95, personal attacks about Obama's mother and father, calling his birth certificate a fraud, saying he's a terrorist, are way out of line. Instead of addressing that, you choose to attack Obama. I'm shocked!
Colter95 October 25, 2012 at 10:58 pm
Change your name to Another Pacifist Liberal already... Romney has stated that a war in Iran would be the absolute last option... And since his priority is our economy, unlike Obama, I doubt he would want a war, which isn't all that good for economic recovery... And honesty is truly a policy foreign to President Obama - unless you believe those incriminating Benghazi emails are a elaborate right wing conspiracy... LOL!! Face it, APL, Obama has proven to be an incompetent on the economy and a liar on the Libya tragedy... Hence, he's dropping in the polls like a rock... With women and independents, it's staggering how fast they are running away from him... Romney/Ryan 2012 in a rout!!
Colter95 October 25, 2012 at 11:02 pm
APL, there is no need to compare Obama to Osama, and Obama taking him out was his best foreign policy decision by far... That said, you cannot run a reelection on that one triumph... If there was one word that aptly described Obama, it would be liar...
Colter95 October 25, 2012 at 11:04 pm
Survey says: Taking all three debates into consideration, who won?
Romney - 49% Obama - 41% Case closed...
