What's Open, What's Closed on Columbus Day in Fairfax County

Most local services and offices will be closed in observance of the federal holiday.

Columbus Day is Monday, Oct. 14 and many local and federal government offices and services will be closed (those not already affected by the government shutdown) because it's a federal holiday.

Columbus Day has been observed on the second Monday of October since 1971, according to history.com.

There will be no mail delivery from the U.S. Postal Service on Monday. Here's a look at some other closings in Fairfax County on Columbus Day:

Fairfax County Government – Closed.

Fairfax County Office of Elections – Closed, including absentee voting.

Fairfax County Courts – Closed.

Fairfax County Public Schools and School Offices – Closed.

Fairfax County Libraries, including the George Mason Regional Library in Annandale – Closed.

Fairfax Connector – Operating a holiday weekday schedule. Routes with weekday service operate according to the weekday schedule except routes 335, 394, 395, 585, 595 and 597, which will not operate. 

Fastran – Not in service.

Fairfax County Park Authority  RECenters will operate on regular schedule. Nature centers and Riverbend Park's visitors center open 12-5 p.m.; historic sites will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Frying Pan Farm Park will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the visitor center open 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; Green Spring Gardens open 12-4:30 p.m. and historic house closed.

Fairfax County teen and senior centers – Closed.

Community Centers – Closed.

Reston Community Center Lake Anne – Open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fairfax County Trash and Recycling Collection – Regular collection.
