Annandale Choirs to Perform with Local Vocal Group Brethren

The concert is free and open to the public and will feature selections from American composers

's choral program is teaming up with male ensemble vocal group Brethren to perform a free concert on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Annandale United Methodist Church.

From 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the groups will perform musical selections from Randall Thompson’s "The Testament of Freedom", as well as works from American composers Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland. The choirs will also have assistance from 's band director, Scott Niehoff and other musicians.

The AHS choral program comprises four choirs, the Concert Choir, the Men's Chorale, the Women's Ensemble, and the Annandale Singers. Led by director Jessica Lardin, the choirs regularly perform at various venues throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Brethren, a Christian male ensemble comprised of 30 singers, are based in the Northern Virginia area. Formed in 2005, the group has released several recordings and perform in the D.C. metro area. According to their biography on their website, the group can transform from a "Southern Gospel quartet to doo-wop group to chamber ensemble to a full choir" and possess a "repertoire as eclectic as their configurations and encompasses all main stream genres of choral music - from Renaissance polyphony to traditional hymnody to spirituals to patriotic standards to southern gospel."

In addition to the partnering with the Annandale choirs on the selected works, the group will also perform some of their own songs during the concert.
