Brian Butler Appointed Principal of Lacey Elementary School

The 20-year educator's term goes into effect in 2012, will meet with parents this year.

 

Brian Butler has been chosen to serve as the first principal of the new elementary school opening at the Lacey site in Annandale.

“I am extremely pleased and proud to have been appointed principal of the new elementary school at the Lacey site. The opportunity to work hand in hand with the families from , , , and , in order to create a new vibrant school community is both exciting and humbling to me," Butler said in a letter sent out to community members. "My goal is to help Lacey become the model of excellence in education, where every student experiences the success that they deserve,”  (see PDF at right for the full letter).

Fairfax County Public Schools announced their decision in an internal memo distributed to staff on Nov. 18 which read, in part, their reasons for selecting Butler: “With a focus on collaborative practices that advance student achievement, he led Mount Eagle to the honorable distinction of being named a National Model Professional Learning Community.  In addition to his success as an instructional leader, Mr. Butler guided Mount Eagle through a full school renovation from 2007 to 2010.” The announcement was later posted to the Lacey FCPS website with Butler's introduction letter.

Butler, who has over 20 years of experience as an educator, formerly served as assistant principal at Lemon Road Elementary. His most recent and current administrative position as principal of started in 2006 (see photos of Butler when he arrived at Mount Eagle here on the school’s website).

A graduate of George Washington University, Butler received his teacher certification from . He also holds a master’s degree in School Counseling and briefly played professional basketball in Europe, according to the note sent out to staff.

Butler’s term begins Jan. 3, 2012. Parents can meet Butler at two scheduled community events on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at at 7 p.m., and Tuesday, Dec. 6, at at 7 p.m.
