(TJHSST) has offered admission to 480 students for the class of 2016, according to a news release from Fairfax County Public Schools.
The number of admitted students is the exact same as the number admitted last year since the school is permitted to admit 480 ninth grade students every year under Regulation 335.10.
According to admissions statistics for the class of 2016, a total of 3,423 students applied. Based on data from previous years outlined in , the magnet school had 113 more applicants for the class of 2016 compared to the 3,310 that applied for the class of 2015.
For the last few years, TJHSST has been trying to increase the number of female and minority students it admits. For another year, the number of female applicants offered admission to the school decreased. Only 199 of 1,612 (41.5 percent) were female, compared to 281 of 1,811 (54.8 percent) male applicants. Previously, the number of accepted female students decreased to 207 for the class of 2015 from 250.
Similar to the , students of Asian descent make up the majority of students offered admission. Of 1,469 applicants of Asian descent, 308 were offered admission for the class of 2016. For the class of 2015, 273 students of Asian descent were admitted. This year, a total of 1,239 white students applied and 126 were offered admission compared to 161 white students admitted last year. The number of Hispanics offered admission for this year was 13, the exact same number as last year.
Seven African-American students and 26 multiracial students were offered admission for the class of 2016 while six African-American students and 27 multiracial students were admitted last year. Two Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander and two American Indian/Alaskan Native applied, but were not offered admission.
According to the news release, 81 percent of the students offered admission live in Fairfax County and 19 percent are from Arlington, Loudoun, and Prince William counties and the City of Falls Church.
The application process for the class of 2016 began in the fall of 2011.
