First Makeup Day Set for Fairfax County Public Schools

Snow storms force district to shift the spring calendar.

With a parade of snow days behind us — and much of the winter storm season still in front of us — Fairfax County Public Schools administrators aren't wasting time in booking make-up days for school hours lost to the elements.

The first snow makeup day will be on Monday, Feb. 17, formerly scheduled as a day off to recognize President's Day.

What do you think of students going to school on President's Day? Tell us in the comments!

The district noted that it will be a full day for elementary students (Monday's are typically half-days for elementary schools).

"This full day will help to ensure elementary schools reach the annual 990 hours of instruction required by the state," according to a message on the FCPS Facebook page. "It also builds up instructional time before spring testing."

The next snow day is tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 7, previously set as a "student holiday." The district reports that it will share a schedule for that day as soon as possible.
