Tenative Lacey School PTA Timeline Announced
Parents zoned for the new school on the Lacey site in Annandale received information about how to get involved with the creation of a PTA
A tentative timeline for the creation of the Parent-Teacher Association for the elementary school on the Lacey site in Annandale was announced at an informational meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at for parents zoned for the school.
Ramona Morrow, president of the Fairfax County Council of PTAs, lead the meeting and answered questions from parents throughout the meeting. Mason District School Board member Sandy Evans, and Assistant Superintendent for Cluster III Dan Parris also attended and spoke to parents about the PTA process and the school.
Morrow told the small audience of parents that the committee currently needs administrative, bylaws, membership, and nominating volunteers, as well as one representative from each school to serve on the interim steering committee so the PTA process can begin.

In addition to the timeline, Evans confirmed that a name for the elementary school will not be selected until after a principal is selected. Evans said FCPS hopes to do community outreach in 2012 and allow for input from parents.

Tentative Timeline for PTA Formation*
Nov. 15: PTA Process Introduction by FCCPTA President Ramona Morrow
Nov. 15-Dec. 15: Steering committee identified (one rep per feeder school)
Dec. 15-Dec. 31: Steering committee interim chair and secretary contact interested parent volunteers to lead and/or support additional committees.
2012 Year
Jan-Feb: Bylaws drafted; application for non-profit tax-id; organize parent meeting with new principal; send membership letter to all feeder schools; membership drive begins; nominations for board members opened
Feb-Mar: Parents meet with new principal; present bylaws draft, voting of first PTA board
Mar-Apr: PTA family outreach; membership drive continues, new board meets to begin outlining events for new year (fundraising, programs, etc)
Apr-May: First PTA outreach event (picnic, location TBA)
May-June: PTA established with initial funds, members, and programs in place for 2012-2013 school year.
