Seniors bring study of U.S. government to life Wednesday with visit to Congress.

Some Woodson High School government students had the chance to see what they've been learning come to life at the Capitol on Wednesday with a visit to Congress.

The visit is one made by many high school students across the county each year.

The trip to DC, and where exactly students visit, is "a school by school decision but encouraged by social studies as it makes the study of government relevant and the students get to see government in action," FCPS social studies coordinator Alice Reilly said.

For instance, Langley High School students in McLean visit the Supreme Court as a capstone to their Case Day, Reilly said.

Some schools that offer political science electives will also help place a few students as interns on the Hill.
