A Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) student has been named a 2013 National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) Newspaper Pacemaker finalist.
Tara Gupta was one of three Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students named as a finalist in the individual Pacemaker awards competition. Gupta’s category was for Editorial Cartoon of the Year.
The TJHSST student newspaper, tjToday, was named a 2013 National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) Newspaper Pacemaker finalist in the category of Broadsheet Newspapers 9-16 pages.
There were more than 300 entries in this year’s NSPA Pacemaker contest in more than five categories. All entries were judged on the following criteria: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, layout and design and photography, art and graphics.
Pacemaker award winners will be announced later this year at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention on Nov. 16 in Boston, Ma.
