University of Northern Virginia Chancellor Resigns

The focus on Lee's personal life was cited as the reason for his resignation

The chancellor at the , which was last month, has resigned.

According to the Washington Post, chancellor David Lee left his position after images of him were found on a BDSM website and published on The Smoking Gun website. He is being replaced by Dr. K. Habib Khan.

The school's website posted a letter [see PDF at right] from Kahn, dated Aug. 24, where he assured students that the university would continue to operate as a "student-centered institution". The letter stated: "I would like you to know that this change does not affect UNVA's mission, vision, or objective in any way. Instead, I would like to reassure all of you that, as an institution, UNVA remains committed to supporting our students during this trying time of uncertainty due to the pending investigation by SEVP/ICE."

Lee's resignation was also announced in a letter [See PDF at right] posted on the UNVA website on Aug. 19. In the letter, Lee explained he was stepping down immediately because "discussions of my personal life have become a distraction."

An ICE spokeswoman was quoted by the Fairfax Times explaining the reason behind the raid last month was due to allegations that the school violated ICE's Student and Exchange Visitor Program guidelines.
