Can't get enough World Cup soccer? There's some fútbol excitement happening right here in Annandale:

This past weekend, 22-year old Carlos Nima won the Allstate “Buenas Manos” Portero Award, which recognizes the best goalkeeper at the Washington, DC area Copa Alianza tournament, according to a news release from Allstate.

Copa Alianza tournaments, presented by Alianza de Fútbol, bring together and showcase the top soccer talent in the country across various age groups.  At each tournament, Allstate recognizes the top goalkeeper with the Allstate “Buenas Manos” Portero Award.

Born in Lima, Peru, Nima has been practicing the sport since the age of 5 and was a varsity player during his four years at Annadale High School in Virginia.  Nima was also previously part of Virginia’s Olympic Development Program, a group of players in various age groups from which the US Men’s National Team selects players for international competition.

Currently, Nima plays with the Oriente Petrolero Club in the Arlington Bolivian Soccer League. During the Copa Alianza competition, Nima allowed only one goal and came out on top among dozens of goalkeepers to win the Allstate “Buenas Manos” Portero Award.
