Annandale's Ahmed Bile Wins Georgetown Classic

The defending state champion and AHS senior finished with a time of 16 minutes and 35.9 seconds

Ahmed Bile took first place at the Georgetown Prep Classic on Saturday, Oct. 15 in North Bethesda, MD, according to the Washington Post.

The (AHS) senior's finishing time at the Georgetown Classic was 16 minutes and 35.9 seconds.

That's not bad for someone who entered high school expecting to play soccer. Last year, Bile told the AHS student newspaper, the A-Blast, that he initially began running as a way to train to play soccer.

Bile, the son of former middle distance runner and 1987 World Champion Abdi Bile, is the in boys cross country. His finishing time at the 2010 Virginia High School League State Cross Country Championship meet was 15 minutes and 27 seconds.

Despite a foot injury last year, Bile placed fourth at the Patriot District meet. Following his achievement there, Bile won the with a time of 15 minutes and 22.3 seconds. He also earned at the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships.
