Bile Wins at VHSL State Cross Country Championships

The Annandale senior beat last year's time by ten seconds

senior Ahmed Bile defended his state title at the Virginia High School League State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 12. Bile beat Chantilly’s Sean McGorty by five seconds to win the title for a second year in a row.

Bile, who was the only runner from AHS at the event, finished the course in 15:16, ten seconds faster than his time last year.

“It was a complete, 100-percent effort,” he said. “I was just exhausted, but it was worth it. I didn’t underestimate any of the guys at all, I’m extremely happy,” Bile told the Washington Post following his finish on Saturday.

's boys cross-country team placed sixth overall as a team at the event with seniors Michael Wattendorf, Andrew O'Shea, Chris Rom, Jacob Zucker, Elliot Simon, and juniors Dan Matson and Greg Anderson competing. The girls placed tenth with seniors Katherine Sheridan, Taylor Reffett, Sarah Nielsen, Sarah Stites, sophomore Grace Zeng, Christine Mayuga, and freshman Katrina Junta competing.
