Volunteer Fairfax Helps Local Nonprofit that Serves Homeless Women Veterans

Volunteer Fairfax helps local nonprofit that serves homeless women veterans.

Volunteer Fairfax, the largest volunteer center in the D.C. metro area, launched its newest initiative Stars, Stripes & Service in September with a day of service in recognition of 9-11.  On Sept. 8, Volunteer Fairfax teamed up with the Veterans Service Initiative, a group of students who are veterans, service members, military family members and ROTC cadets who are interested in continuing their legacy of service.

Together they worked to prepare a group home for Final Salute, Inc.  While this house will provide safe and secure housing for 6 female veterans and their children, Final Salute will also assist the women in establishing their independence.

The volunteers helped to prepare the house for its future residents.  The 20 volunteers helped to weed out the overgrown flower beds, remove invasive plants from fencing and retaining walls and painted the windows, doors and trim inside the house.  Volunteers worked for nearly four solid hours!

Stars, Stripes and Service was created to better connect service members, veterans and their families with engagement opportunities & community services to help them continue to serve in  their own community.  Stars, Stripes and Service also works to engage the wider community in service with projects and events that support the military community.  Do you want to give back too?
