Annandale Tree Lighting, Taste of Braddock, Artist-Teacher Exhibit

Here are five things to look forward to in Annandale this week.

There are less than 30 days left until 2014 and there are still plenty of things going on in the Annandale-area through the end of the holiday season.

Here's a look at the week ahead.

  1. Tree Lighting Ceremony: Friday is the annual Annandale Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony and Reception. Hosted by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce, the ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. in Toll House Park (located at the intersection between Annandale Road and Little River Turnpike). There will be performances by the Poe Carolers from Poe Middle School. A reception will follow at Burke & Herbert Bank located at 4235 Annandale Rd. Details.
  2. Holiday Town Gathering: Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross will host her annual Mason District Town Gathering on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Mason Government Center, located at 6507 Columbia Pike. There will be musical performance by The Tallwood Trio, tasty refreshments, and opportunities to win a door prize at this annual holiday event.
  3. Taste of Braddock: Braddock District Supervisor John Cook will host his annual Taste of Braddock Holiday Open house on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Braddock Hall, which is located in the Kings Park Library, 9002 Burke Lake Road. There will be food and beverages provided by local restaurants.
  4. Artist-Teacher Exhibition: More than 40 Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) teachers, including six from Annandale-area schools, will have their artwork on display at the Workhouse Arts Center Vulcan Gallery, located at 9601 Ox Rd., in Lorton, beginning Wednesday for the sixth annual FCPS Artist Teacher Exhibition. Details.
  5. Board Meeting: The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday for their final meeting of the year. The board meets in the Board Auditorium in the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. View the full meeting agenda here.
