The forum included candidates (or their representatives) from the 8th, 10th and 11th congressional districts.
Health care, immigration and the economy were hot-button issues at the Asian American Northern Virginia Candidate forum on Friday night that featured political candidates running in Virginia’s congressional and Senate races. The event was hosted by several Virginia Asian-American organizations and focused specifically on issues that affect the Asian-American community. Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th), who has received some criticism for not participating in enough debates this election season, was present, but challenger Col. Chris Perkins was absent so that he and his family could prepare for his daughter's wedding. For the 8th district, incumbent Jim Moran (D-8th) sent a representative, Austin Durr, in his place to face off against …

The incumbent and Republican candidates vying for the 11th Virginia Congressional District seat finally got to go toe-to-toe before voters.
What was slated as a forum for candidates vying for Virginia’s 11th congressional district turned into an impromptu debate between incumbent Gerry Connolly (D) and Republican candidate Col. (Ret) Chris Perkins. The two candidates, who have not agreed on a time for a formal debate, went back and forth Tuesday at the Tysons Corner Marriott on issues ranging from the Affordable Healthcare Act to the local job market. “It’s what the people are owed,” Perkins said about the impromptu debate. Connolly, Perkins and Independent candidates Chris DeCarlo and Mark Gibson attended the forum co-sponsored by the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Merrifield Business Association. Each candidate was given seven minutes to speak before …

These sequestration cuts disproportionately burden Northern Virginia and the defense industry …

The Department of Defense has extended the deadline for veterans and service members to apply for retroactive "stop loss pay" to Oct. 21.
Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th) announced Tuesday that the Department of Defense has extended the deadline for veterans and service members to apply for retroactive "stop loss pay" to Oct. 21. “The debt we owe to our veterans is impossible to pay but as a nation we must do our best to try,” Connolly said in a news release distributed Tuesday. “These brave men and women never wavered when we called on them to extend their service. This extension is critically important to ensure that every service member owed back pay is compensated.” Members of the military, along with their beneficiaries, whose service was involuntarily extended under stop loss between Sept. 11, 2001 and Sept. 30, 2009, are eligible for the retroactive payments. The …

Since when is asking some one to provide a ID a barrier to voting. Connolly either you chose not to understand why we need an ID which to me would be amazing since you Congressman or you just do not care why you would need an ID and want to encourage people to falsely vote so they would vote for Democrats. You need an ID to prove who you are. If I go to a store and write a check I have to show an…   more ›
