On the above map, the addresses are block numbers, not specific home or business addresses. The following items are from recent police updates through Oct. 18 from the Franconia, Mason and West Springfield police districts of the Fairfax County Police Department. Burglary (marked in blue on above map), 5400 block of Cheyenne Knoll Place, 10/13/12, 1:50 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his home and stole several items to include cash. Forced entry was made through the front door. In separate and unrelated incidents: Larcenies (marked in red on above map) Vehicle Thefts (marked in green on above map)

Police: Man Arrested for Unlawful Entry, Larceny

The following items are from recent police updates through Oct. 10 from the Franconia, Mason and West Springfield police districts of the Fairfax County Police Department. Burglary (marked in blue on above map) 5000 block of Ravensworth Road, Oct. 4, 4:50 a.m. Officers responded for a stranger standing in the resident’s home. Entry was made through an unlocked door. Robert S. Choi, 38, of Burke, was charged with unlawful entry and larceny. In Virginia, restaurant inspection reports aren't quite as simple as getting a letter grade or an easy to see number rating to post in the front window. That said, we all want to know how our favorite restaurants stack up on cleanliness and sanitation. Inspectors grade restaurants based on critical and non-critical violations. A "critical violation" is one that "poses a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served." Non-critical violations are generally related to cleaning or maintenance. Police: Officer Assaulted on Annandale Road

On the above map, the addresses are block numbers, not specific home or business addresses. The following items are from recent police updates through Oct. 5 from the West Springfield, Franconia and Mason police districts of the Fairfax County Police Department. Assault (marked in red on above map), 3100 block of Annandale Road, 9/29/12, 10:30 p.m. An officer was driving down the road and observed an apparent fight. As the officer attempted to detain the primary aggressor, he was attacked by the “victim.” Louis Paec, 37, of Falls Church, was charged with assault on a family member and drunk in public. Police: Pedestrian Fatality Reported in Annandale

The following items are from recent police updates through Sept. 28 from the West Springfield, Franconia and Mason police districts of the Fairfax County Police Department. Pedestrian Fatality (marked in red on above map) - On Thursday, Sept. 20, around 2:30 p.m., police responded to a struck pedestrian on Gallows Road. A Fairfax County school bus was stopped in the southbound turn lanes of Gallows Road at the intersection with Columbia Pike.  Joon Seok Ahn, 89, of 6925 Columbia Pike, was walking westbound and entered the crosswalk while traffic was stopped. Annandale Restaurant Inspection Reports: Pho Hot Restaurant

The most recently available restaurant inspection reports in Annandale from Sept. 15 - 25.

Between Sept. 15 - 25, only one restaurant in the Annandale area was inspected: Pho Hot Restaurant. Local Delivery Businesses Feel Pain at the Pump

Gas prices sock delivery services in the pocketbook

Drivers and the small businesses that employ them are feeling a lot of pain at the gas pump and Annandale is no exception. According to AAA, the current national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.98. While the average for the entire state of Virginia is lower than that, gas is priced higher at stations in Northern Virginia. The most recent spike in oil prices can be attributed to unrest in Middle Eastern countries, but as summer approaches, experts say expect prices to continue climbing.  According to the U.S. Energy and Information Administration, fuel prices are up about 25 percent from 2010 and that could climb to 40 percent over last summer. Easter Egg Hunt at Mason District Park

Got any chocolate eggs?

More than 500 children and their families visited Mason District Park on Saturday. There they found Easter eggs, candy and popcorn, a moonbounce, live animals and the Easter Bunny. The event was hosted by the Friends of Hidden Oak Nature Center. Enjoy the gallery!
