The Northern Virginia Community College women’s volleyball team has some new, familiar faces on their team with the addition of two Annandale High School volleyball players. Olivia Franjie, a three-year varsity starter for the Atoms and captain of her junior and senior campaigns, and Jessica Gallogly, also a three-year varsity starter, signed National Letters of Intent Friday with NOVA, according to a news release. “Both Olivia and Jessie are well rounded players and can play multiple positions,” said NOVA Women's Volleyball Coach Marcus Robinson in the release. “Olivia is a very talented setter and will bring strong leadership to that position. Jessica is a versatile player with good court awareness.”

Both Annandale area schools exit the Northern Region tournament with losses.
The Annandale High School boys lacrosse team fell 15-5 to Chantilly in the first round of the Virginia AAA Northern Region tournament Tuesday. With the loss, the Atoms end their season 10-8 overall. On the girls' side, the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology girls lacrosse team met a similar fate when they fell 19-18 in overtime to Yorktown. The Colonials put up a fight to end their season 10-8 overall. The Woodson High School boys and girls lacrosse teams both won in the first round of the Northern Region Tournament on Tuesday. The Annandale High School Parent-Teacher Student Association (PTSA) will host the 16th Annual Red & White Golf Classic Friday, May 17. The fundraising event starts at 8 a.m. at the Laurel Hill Golf Course in Lorton. This is the third year the golf classic will be at the Laurel Hill, which is also hosting this year’s United States Golf Association 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. “The proceeds from the Red & White Golf Classic are used to support the academic programs of the school's Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA),” said Golf Classic Co-Chair Rich Fruchterman in an email to Patch. The annual community event helps to provide college scholarships for students and support Annandale High School athletics.
It’s back: the Annual Atoms 5K Run/Walk is on Sunday, May 5. This year’s race will have a Cinco de Mayo theme. The 5K is hosted by the Annandale High School (AHS) Athletic Boosters and benefits the AHS athletic program and college scholarships for students. The tradition began in the community in 1994. The USATF Certified course starts at Four Year Run and runs through the community and ends at the track at AHS. In ranking of top U.S. high schools, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology remains the top school in Virginia, but slips in national standing.
Fairfax County is home to the top five public high schools in Virginia, according to the U.S. News and World Report’s 2013 Best High Schools rankings released Tuesday. U.S. News generated the rankings through a partnership with American Institutes for Research, looking at students’ performance on standardized tests and how successfully schools educated black, Hispanic and low-income students. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology was once again ranked the top school in Virginia. It was ranked No. 4 of all schools nationally, down from its No. 2 post in 2012. The Annandale High School drama team brought the comics to life for a truly entertaining performance.
The Lovin' Spoonful's first ever top ten hit single, "Do You Believe in Magic" plays in the background of a stage covered with giant baby blocks. Setting the tone for the innocent and adorable antics of the teens turned toddlers in Annandale High School's production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The musical called You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown originally started an concept album created by Clark Gesner that gave praise to Charles M. Schulz's famous comic strip, "Peanuts". However, after giving it a listen, Arthur Whitelaw highly supported the notion to turn these songs into a full fledged musical. Tuesday is the last day to place an order for flowers from the Annandale High School PTSA fundraiser.
Just in time for Mother's Day in May, the Annandale High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is hosting a flower madness fundraiser. A variety of flowers are on sale, including perennials, annuals, petunias, begonias, hanging baskets, patio plants and more. All orders and payments have to be received by Tuesday, April 16. Orders can be submitted through the order form on the PTSA website where residents can also view photos of the plants offered. Plants can be picked up at Annandale High School on Thursday, May 2. The learning disabilities teacher was served a summons last week on school grounds for one misdemeanor count of assault.
A court hearing date has been set for the Annandale High School (AHS) teacher charged with assaulting an AHS student. According to Fairfax County General District Court records, Anne Perry, 64, of Springfield, will appear in court May 15 at 9:30 a.m. Perry was charged April 2 with one misdemeanor count of assault for a March 12 incident involving a student at the school. The teacher was charged this week with one misdemeanor count of assault for a March 12 incident involving a student. According to an automated Fairfax County Public Schools "Keep in Touch" call from Principal Vincent Randazzo Friday afternoon, the teacher has been placed on administrative leave. Fairfax County Police Department Public Information Officer Bud Walker confirmed the teacher was served a summons on Tuesday on school grounds, but she was not taken into custody. A man reportedly flashed a girl Tuesday while she was walking to school, near Commons Drive and Rectory Lane in Annandale, the Annandale High School (AHS) newspaper The A-Blast reported Wednesday. According to the report, the girl was walking toward AHS when she was approached by what she described as a Hispanic man who exposed himself to her. The man is described as 5'7" feet tall, around 170 pounds, wearing a black jacket, and driving a dark green, older model sedan. The girl reportedly was not familiar with the man prior to the incident.
