Transportation and education dominated the conversation Saturday at a town hall meeting at Sleepy Hollow Woods Elementary School featuring Del. Kaye Kory (D-38th), Sen. Dick Saslaw (D-35th), and Sen. Dave Marsden (D-37th). Around 100 residents filled the Lecture Hall to listen to the Northern Virginia legislators deliver a mid-session update on current issues in the Virginia General Assembly. Each representative noted that without a balanced transportation plan, Northern Virginia will be unable to maintains its roadways. Saslaw criticized Gov. The Virginia General Assembly convened Wednesday for its 2013 session at the state Capitol in Richmond with lots of hot-button issues before them such as transportation, school security, gun laws and uranium mining. As they arrived today, lawmakers likely saw several hundred protesting demonstrators on both sides of the abortion debate demonstrating outside of the Capitol. According to Richmond Sunlight, the 100 members of the House of Delegates have filed 1,153 bills and the 40 members of the Senate have filed 597. The 140 elected representatives are from an equal number of constituent districts across the commonwealth. The House of Delegates is presided over by the Speaker of the House. One of many debates featuring candidates that represent Annandale and Mason District
A handful of local officials that represent Annandale participated in a candidate debate forum in Falls Church sponsored by the Skyline Square Association and spoke to constituents from Skyline about a variety of topics. Mason District Supervisor Penelope Gross and her challenger, David Feld, Sen. Dick Saslaw (D-35th) and his challenger, Robert Sarvis, Mason District School Board member Sandra Evans, and Fairfax County School Board At-Large Candidate Lolita Mancheno-Smoak all participated in the forum. Please let's have a little truth in labelling here. This is nothing more than a Democratic positioning of the General Assembly session and a blame game. Saslaw was such a baby that he helped kill the transportation bill - and offered no alternative. For the most powerful D in Richmond, as he calls himself, he's not solving our transportation woes.
