Goodwill Celebrates Grand Opening in Annandale

Visitors enjoyed refreshments following a ribbon-cutting for the 14th regional location for the Goodwill of Greater Washington.

Annandale residents and representatives from Goodwill of Greater Washington and Capital One Bank celebrated the grand opening of the new Annandale Goodwill store Saturday morning.  The store, located at 7031 Columbia Pike, is the 14th regional location in Fairfax County for Goodwill of Greater Washington. It will serve as a retail store, donation center, and a job-training center. According to Brendan Hurley, CMO for the Annandale Goodwill, the Annandale store is also the largest Goodwill of Greater Washington retail store and donation center in the region at 25,000 square feet. Annandale Goodwill Store to Host Grand Opening Saturday

The Annandale location, which opened last month, is the organization's 14th retail store and donation center.

The new Annandale Goodwill store is set to celebrate its new home at 7031 Columbia Pike near Jukebox Diner with a grand opening celebration on Saturday. The event, which is open to the public, begins at 10 a.m. and lasts until Noon. There will also be a ribbon cutting. Catherine Meloy, President & CEO of Goodwill of Greater Washington and Tony Pica, Northern Virginia Market President for Capital One Bank are expected to attend. The store is also offering customers 25 percent off all donated clothing to celebrate the grand opening. Goodwill announced its move to Annandale in December. The store officially opened on Jan. 26. Update Friday, Jan. 4 11 a.m.: The Goodwill store will host their grand opening and ribbon cutting on Saturday, Feb. 9. -- The incoming Goodwill® store, which will replace the former RoomStore at 7031 Columbia Pike near Jukebox Diner, is scheduled to open next year. "We hope to get lots of shoppers and donors from the Annandale area," said Brendan Hurley Chief Marketing Officer for the Goodwill of Greater Washington offices. The store is aiming to accept donations beginning Jan. 11 and to open for retail as early as Jan. 26. The dates are tentative, Hurley said, and depend on zoning approvals and construction-related factors. The Annandale Goodwill® will be the third location in the area. Goodwill Store to Open in Annandale

The community-based non-profit will replace the RoomStore which closed in 2011.

Community-based organization Goodwill® is moving into Annandale. The non-profit plans to open a new store in the former location of the RoomStore at 7031 Columbia Pike near Jukebox Diner. The space has been vacant for almost a year since RoomStore closed after the company filed for bankruptcy in December 2011. Calls to Goodwill® about a potential open date for the Annandale store have not been returned. However, the banner outside reads that the store is "coming soon." Goodwill® is most commonly known for their retail thrift stores, but the organization also provides job training and other employment placement services, according to their website.
