Fairfax County Fire and Rescue investigators have named an unidentified electrical event in the basement as the cause of Sunday’s accidental fire in the 6600 block of Reserves Hill Court off of Old Columbia Pike in Annandale. According to a news release, the fire started in the mechanical room in the basement and later spread to the ceiling and first floor subfloor of the home. The news release states firefighters responded to the house fire at approximately 1:55 p.m. to find “heavy smoke coming from the basement of the two-story home.” It took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the fire under control. Two occupants at home called 911 after they smelled smoke and found the garage on fire.
A fire broke out Sunday afternoon in the garage of a home on Reserves Hill Court, a cul-de-sac development off of Old Columbia Pike in Annandale, across from Pinecrest Golf Course. Two occupants of the home smelled smoke and noticed the smoke detectors in the home did not go off, according to a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue spokesperson. They found the fire, in the home's garage, and called 911. About 30 fire and rescue personnel arrived on scene and performed an aggressive fire attack and got the fire out in about 10 minutes. Fire and rescue have determined that the fire started due to an undetermined electrical issue. Ten people live in the home — six adults and four children. Only two were home at the time of the fire. An Annandale man and a firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries in a fire Sunday in West Annandale. According to a news release from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, units responded to a two-story structure fire at 3739 Morningside Dr., around 5:35 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw the building, which is near the rear of the property’s primary residence "fully involved with fire." It took firefighters 15 minutes to get the fire under control. The adult male injured in the fire was transported to the Washington Hospital Burn Center. Update 7 p.m. Friday: According to a news release from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the fire was accidental. Due to the derecho storm on Friday, the home was without power for days. When power was restored to the home, "the electric stove was in the on position and combustible materials near the stove ignited causing the fire." Two adults and three children have been displaced. A house fire early Sunday morning at 3518 Rose Lane in Annandale has displaced a family of four. According to a news release from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, units responded to a call about a house fire at the single-family home at approximately 3:35 a.m. Upon reaching the scene, firefighters saw smoke and fire coming from the eaves and attic. Units were able to get the fire out in under 10 minutes. The two adults and two children were able to escape the home thanks to the smoke alarms alerting them to the fire. Fire damaged a single family home at 9203 Alyssum Way in Annandale Wednesday morning. Captain Joe Schumacher of the City of Fairfax Fire Department said the dispatch came through at 7:45 a.m. "When we arrived there was smoke showing through the entire structure," he said. Fire fighters believe that no one was in the home at the time of the fire. "A neighbor told us that the owner had died, and the house was for sale, but that's unconfirmed," said Schumacher. A 15-year-old girl safely escaped a house fire at her home at 3794 Dade Dr in Annandale after a neighbor called 911. Fairfax County Fire Department and Rescue units responded to the fire at 5:56 p.m., minutes after resident Steve Cowan called 911.
