Police: ATM Skimmer Found at Inova Hospitals

Fairfax County police found a similar device on the same ATM machine at Inova Fairfax in August.

For the second time this year Fairfax County Police have found a skimmer device on an ATM at Inova Fairfax Hospital. The ATM machine, near the gift shop at the hospital, was found to have a skimmer device on it last Tuesday. A hospital employee noticed that the input slot for the card was loose and wobbly, and when she inserted her bankcard, the device fell off. Police believe the device may have been on the machine for weeks. In August, a similar device was found on the same machine. Lucy Caldwell, a spokeswoman for Fairfax County police, said it’s possible the two incidents could be related. “We wouldn’t be surprised if we got reports of more fraudulent charges from people’s accounts,” Caldwell said. “Hopefully people will pay close …

Police: ATM Skimming is on the Rise

Fairfax County police are still investigating a reported skimmed ATM machine but still no arrests.

Fairfax County police still haven’t arrested anyone involved with placing a skimmer on an ATM at the Inova Fairfax Hospital Cardiac Care Center in August but they have been plenty busy investigating similar cases. Over the last 18 months, Lucy Caldwell, spokeswoman for the agency, said detectives have investigated about 600 cases in the “skimmed cards” category and the number is climbing. “When we say skimmed, we include cases where skimmings occurred at ATMs as well as where the skimming took place at other venues,” she said. In late August, police say a skimming device was placed on an ATM inside the hospital. Caldwell said thousands of dollars were stolen from accounts that were breached because of the device. It’s unknown exactly how …

New Public Entrance Opens at INOVA Fairfax Hospital

Visitors will now use a new entrance at the intersection of Woodburn Road and Gallows Road.

INOVA Fairfax Hospital has a new public entrance for their Fairfax Medical Campus. The hospital closed their gray entrance on Gallows Road to non-emergency department traffic on Saturday. All traffic can now access the hospital through the new entrance called Wellness Boulevard at the intersection of Woodburn Road and Gallows Road. There is also a new traffic signal at the intersection as a result of the new entrance. According to an announcement from Inova, the Blue Entrance is not affected and will remain open for use. In addition to the new traffic light at the entrance, the announcement states that brand new right and left turn lanes will aid in helping improve traffic flow to those entering and exiting the campus.

Mark, I agree that the Holly/Gallows/Woodburn intersection is a mess. So far, though, I haven't noticed much impact on Woodburn from the new hospital entrance. If anything, I would expect that traffic light to make it easier to make your right onto Woodburn, as that light will hold up oncoming traffic. I drive past the new light every day and it seems that there aren't very many cars using that …   more ›
