Spotlight by Starlight Summer Concert Series Starts June 2

Bands will perform at Mason District and Ossian Hall Parks this summer in Annandale.

The Spotlight by Starlight summer concert series, sponsored by Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross and the Friends of the Mason District Park, returns to Annandale in June. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in June, July and August, a variety of bands and artists will take the stage at Mason District Park at 7:30 p.m. If there’s a threat of inclement weather, call 703-324-SHOW(7469) one hour before the start of the show for updates.

Annandale Businesses, Residents Participate in 9th Annual Annandale Bed Race

The event raises money for the Virginia Special Olympics.

Under the cover of gray clouds and the occasional downpour of rain, more than 15 teams competed in the 9th Annual Annandale Hospital Bed Race Saturday morning. Every year, teams race hospital beds, which are donated for the event and decorated by the residents and the businesses prior to the beginning of the event, up and down John Marr Drive in heats. The race is sponsored by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce and benefits the Virginia Special Olympics. Fairfax County Chairman Sharon Bulova and Mason District Supervisor Penelope Gross both briefly stopped by the race to show their support. Poe Middle School to Host Annual Health Expo Saturday

Admission to the Annandale middle school event is free.

Poe Middle School will host its 2nd Annual Community Health & Activity Expo Saturday, May 11 from 1-4 p.m. The cost of admission to the expo is free and childcare will be provided on site. The family-friendly event will include health screenings, fitness classes, cooking demonstrations, vendors, nutritional information and much more. The event is open to the community. Annandale Atoms "Cinco K" 5K Walk/Run Set for Sunday

The annual community event helps to provide college scholarships for students and support Annandale High School athletics.

It’s back: the Annual Atoms 5K Run/Walk is on Sunday, May 5. This year’s race will have a Cinco de Mayo theme. The 5K is hosted by the Annandale High School (AHS) Athletic Boosters and benefits the AHS athletic program and college scholarships for students. The tradition began in the community in 1994. The USATF Certified course starts at Four Year Run and runs through the community and ends at the track at AHS. [View a map of the course here] Interested participants can register online or complete walk-in registration the day of the race between 7-8 a.m. on Sunday. Cue up the mariachi band—Cinco de Mayo is fast approaching. The celebration of Mexican heritage on May 5 is sometimes mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day.
