Meet Dasher, White and Black Pointer, for Adoption at Fairfax Animal Shelter

Eight year-old dog available for adoption has been at the county shelter since Feb. 16.

Looking to add a furry friend to your household? Here's some information about one of the pets up for adoption at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter: "Staff took Dasher home to foster for one night. He was a perfect gentleman! He was wonderful getting in and out of the car - was very gentle when he met two cats and a female dog. He was non-reactive when my female dog growled at him and was perfect around the cats. "He came in, laid on a soft doggy bed, and made himself right at home. Very calm dog - would be wonderful with children or other pets. No issues with marking or dominance the entire night. Slept through the night. Appears to be completely potty-trained. Animal Welfare League of Alexandria to Host Black Friday Adoption Event

Adopters will be able to decide on and pay their adoption fee for the animal of their choice.

If a new pet is on your shopping list this Black Friday, you're in luck: The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) will host a Black Friday Adoption Special for homeless animals at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter next week. The event will last from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23. As part of event, potential adopters can name their own adoption fee for all animals ages six months and older, according to a press release. Animals five months old and younger will be available for adoption at the normal fee. While adoption. The minimum adoption fee required is $10. Adoption fees for adult dogs and cats usually range around $150 and $120, respectively. The cost includes: spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, health screenings, …

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria Hosts Back to School Adoption Event

The adoption event will end on Sept. 11.

Annandale residents who missed out on the Fairfax County Animal Shelter's Summer OlymPETs event have another opportunity to adopt a pet not too far from the community. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is hosting a "Back to School" Adoption Event until Sept. 11 at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter,  located at 4101 Eisenhower Ave. The event began on Wednesday. According to a press release, the goal of the event is to "find permanent, loving homes for all animals in the shelter before the end of summer." “The adoption event is a fun way to engage potential adopters as they prepare for the start of another school year,” Kathy Vellenga, director of adoption programs, said in the release. “August is typically a slow period for animal …

Fairfax Shelter Hosts OlymPETS Adoption Event

The event ends on Aug. 11.

Hopeful pets are awaiting new homes at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, and an Olympics-inspired promotion hopes to take them there. The shelter’s OlymPETS adoption event started Tuesday and lasts until Aug. 11. During that time, two cats or kittens can be adopted for the price of one and all adopted cats will receive a free spay or neuter. The cost of adopting two cats would be $30 at the shelter at 4500 West Ox Road in Fairfax from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
