The 35th Annual Wakefield Park Holiday Art and Craft Show is back. Sponsored by the Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild (NVHG), the craft show will feature artisans from the area over two days on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Audrey Moore RECenter in Wakefield Park. According to a press release from NVHG, more than 60 juried vendors and more than 100 artisans will participate in the show, selling handmade items such as pottery, ceramics and more. Visitors will also be able to find clothes, drawings, photography, and metal and wood crafted items. Door prizes will also be handed out during the craft show. The new CVS under construction in west Annandale will not open until early next year. According to Mike DeAngelis, director of public relations for CVS, the store will now open in February 2013 if all scheduled construction goes according to plan. The original projected finish date for the store, located at 3921 Prosperity Ave., Fairfax, was set for September. The site has been under construction for most of 2012 between Woodburn Road and Prosperity Avenue. DeAngelis confirmed what he told Patch in June that the store will still be a free-standing, full-service CVS that will include a drive-thru and a 24-hour pharmacy. According to the National Retail Federation's national holiday consumer spending survey (conducted by BIGinsight), the average holiday shopper will spend $749.51 on gifts, décor, holiday cards, entertaining and other things this season. That's a minor increase from $740.57 — the amount shoppers spent last year. The Santa Winter Wonderland opens Nov. 24.
With the holiday season on the way, Santa Claus is making plans to visit the Merrifield Garden Center on Gallows Road. Between Nov. 24 and Dec. 23, children visiting the center can write letters to Santa with a gift list, take pictures with him and ask questions during a press conference the man from the North Pole. There will also be a box for families in the Winter Wonderland to donate toys to less fortunate children. The toys will be gathered and taken to the Catholic Diocese of Arlington. Another new Vietnamese noodle restaurant is now calling Annandale home. Pho 24, located at 4230 Annandale Rd #170 near hahaPink, opened two weeks ago. The restaurant offers several Vietnamese noodle soup dishes. The restaurant is still offering a grand opening special of $5-$6 for a small or large bowl of noodle soup. IMM, located at 7203 Columbia Pike near Joseph's Coat and Giant, is a family-owned and operated dine-in and take-out restaurant. According to manager Aum Kettutat, IMM opened on Oct. 9. Kettutat described the food as simple and flavorful, adding that in addition to Thai street food, IMM serves Thai fusion or Thai-inspired dishes. The self-serve frozen yogurt store is replacing H&R Block in the Pinecrest Shopping Center.
Menchie's self-serve frozen yogurt will open its new location in the Pinecrest Shopping Center on Thursday, Nov. 15. To celebrate its grand opening, the store will have several events and deals for customers, according to manager Leigh Miller. A ribbon cutting featuring the store’s mascot Menchie is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, but Menchie’s official grand opening week activities won’t kick off until the following week. On Saturday, Nov. 24, Menchie’s will hand out free frozen yogurt for the first two hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first 50 visitors to the store will also receive a free T-shirt.
