how about a kitchen supply shop? Lots of folks are cooking from scratch, learning how to cook and eat at home. We need good at home cooking supplies. I would focus on small items for essential cooking and ethnic/exotic cooking. Perhaps a GOOD spice shop?   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: Annandale Florist

What would you like to see at the former site of the Annandale Florist?

The Annandale Florist, located at 7224 Columbia Pike, closed its doors on Dec. 31 after owner Gary Sherfey announced he was retiring. The popular flower shop served residents in Annandale and beyond for more than 50 years. What would you like to see at this property? What kind of business do you think would best serve the community's needs and blend in with the current shops along Backlick Road and the corner near Columbia Pike?

Unless there is space in the back, there is NO parking. I would also like to see "charm" return to Annandale, albeit there hasn't been much since I've moved here 20 years ago. I'd like to see a interior decorating place and/or specialty gift shop in that space.   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: Trophy Mart

What would you like to see at the former site of Trophy Mart?

Our last Visions for Vacancies for the Annandale Design & Flowers received 12 votes and 12 comments. This week, we've selected the former site of Trophy Mart, located at 7221 Little River Turnpike. In July, Trophy Mart moved to a new location at 5701 General Washington Blvd., Ste. N in Alexandria because, according to owner Josh Perelman, they outgrew their Annandale space. What would you like to see at this property? What kind of business do you think would best serve the community's needs and blend in with the current shops along Little River Turnpike?

Visions for Vacancies: Annandale Boys & Girls Club

What would you like to see at the former site of the Annandale Boys & Girls Club?

Our last Visions for Vacancies for the Frame Factory received five comments. This week, we've selected the former Annandale Boys & Girls Club (ABGC) location on Columbia Pike, located at 7236-A Columbia Pike. Back in March, the ABGC moved to 4216 Annandale Road. Since then, the section of the building the organization once occupied on Columbia Pike has been vacant. What would you like to see at this property? What kind of business do you think would best serve the community's needs and draw some foot traffic to Columbia Pike? Take our poll or tell us in the comments!

I like Angel's idea..that house is so charming and cute, that it would lend itself to it. Either that, or how about turning it into an "Annandale Visitor Center"? We need to do what we can to salvage our beautiful little historic section and keep it intact- it's our last connection to history with all the tasteless new construction taking over. It's bad enough their going to ruin it with the new…   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: Frame Factory

What would you like to see at the former Frame Factory?

Our last Visions for Vacancies for Sunset Grille received 43 votes, but only 3 comments. This week, we've selected the vacant lot beside the Antiques & Art Emporium at 7130 Little River Tpke., the former site of the Frame Factory. Back in January, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a blight abatement plan for the fire damaged property. The property is for sale by the owners. So what would you like to see at this property? What kind of business do you think would best serve the community's needs and fit in with the existing stores on Little River Turnpike? Take our poll or tell us in the comments!

Visions for Vacancies

Visions for Vacancies: Sunset Grille

What would you like to see at the former neighborhood inland beach bar?

Last week, suggestions for the former Hallmark store received 65 votes and 24 comments. Since Sunset Grille closed last week (to the disappointment of Grillbillies everywhere), we've chosen the former music venue and bar located at 7250 Columbia Pike for this week's Visions for Vacancies. The property is owned by Burke & Herbert Bank. Due to policy restrictions, the bank would not disclose whether the property has already been sold now that Sunset Grille is closed. So what would you like to see at this property? What kind of business do you think would best serve the community's needs and fit in with the existing stores along Columbia Pike? Take our poll or tell us in the comments!

Great ideas, folks~ ice cream shop, Potbelly's, Dunkin Donuts, maybe even a Baja Fresh! Baskin Robbins would be awesome! If not, then another specialty Hallmark store like "Something Special" or a Caribou Coffeehouse would offer a good variety in that plaza.   more ›

This would be the PERFECT location to reopen Fuddruckers. Please, come back to Annandale...we miss & need you!!!! Fuddruckers was a tradition in our neighborhood for the past 20+ years because of its great burgers, great family ambience, and great prices and it left a void for that type of locale when they closed. We really need more good, classic American food restaurants in our area. Thank …   more ›
