Water Main Break Shuts Off Water on Cherokee Avenue and 8th Street

A 12-inch split caused homes in the greater Annandale area to lose water early Friday morning.

An 12-inch water main break left residents on Cherokee Avenue and 8th Street near the Lincolnia part of the greater Annandale area without water Friday morning. Jeanne Bailey, spokesperson for Fairfax Water, said crews arrived at 5 a.m. to shut the water off. A total of 15 homes on Cherokee Avenue and 8th Street were initially affected by the outage. Bailey said water was restored to the 8th Street homes earlier Friday morning, leaving 10 homes on Cherokee Avenue still without water. Crews have been working steadily all morning to repair the break. As of 11 a.m., crews were still on site. Bailey estimated water would be restored to the homes by 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. Water Main Break Collapses Road in Annandale

The break occurred on Wednesday morning. Service has since been returned to affected homes, but road repairs continue.

An eight-inch water main break caused the street at the intersection of Springbrook Drive and Eddystone Street to collapse on Wednesday morning. The collapsed road is located in the Canterbury Woods community in Annandale. "The break is right at the intersection and it undermined integrity of the road for about a block," said Jeanne Bailey, spokesperson for Fairfax Water. A news alert from Braddock District Supervisor John Cook's office suggests residents park away from the collapsed road and walk to their homes. Bailey could not indicate what time the break happened, but said all water service has since returned to all of the homes affected.
