Speak Out: Joseph's Coat Closing in Annandale

What do you think of the closure of this Annandale thrift shop?

After a little more than a year in Annandale,  Joseph’s Coat Thrift Store, located at 7219 Columbia Pike, will close next month.

The store will close due to inconsistent low sales, according to Bethany House of Northern Virginia, Inc. Executive Director Catherine Hassinger. Joseph’s Coat is a subsidiary of BHNV.

“We’ve had some wonderful donations come in, but we're in a tough economy, especially for the retail environment. Unfortunately, starting over in a new location, we didn't establish a solid customer base that would support keeping the store open,” Hassinger told Patch.

Readers reacted to the news on the Annandale Patch Facebook page this week.

Joni Forrest said, "Awww I always go to the little thrift stores over Goodwill anytime."

Reader Kevin Sabo wrote, "[It was a] bad location."

Annandale is home to three other thrift shops - Auntie Te's, Goodwill, and Treasure Trove. What do you think of the abundance of thrift stores in the area? Will you miss Joseph's Coat? Tell us in the comments below.
